Breast cancer is the most common cancer amongst Malaysian women and the majority of breast cancers are not due to inherited (genetic) factors. For most women, getting older is the greatest risk factor for developing breast cancer. However, for a small number of families, breast cancer runs in the family and this may be caused by a faulty gene. In this public lecture, Dr Teo will outline what we currently know about faulty breast cancer genes in the Malaysian population and provide some information about what you can do if you think you are at risk to familial breast cancer.
